This museum has an extraordinary collection of animal species from all over the world. Although some animals are reproductions, you will be surprised to see that most of them are stuffed. Whether you like taxidermy or not, you just have to admit the quality of the work…
On the first floor, the museum offers an immersion in the aquatic world and its mysteries. Let’s cite the giant squid, and its way of preservation the museum is very proud of. Some visitors however will maybe be more impressed by the skeleton of an austral whale of over 15 meters…
On the second floor are shown, amongst others, species living in Africa and Latin America. The reputation of this museum is partly due to the gigantic herd of African fauna represented here, and that runs through a big part of the gallery. Baboons, giraffes, rhinoceroses, hyenas, snakes… parents and their children will be thrilled by this life size show.
Although the main aim of the museum is to show the impressive variety of animal species from the Creation on, it doesn’t forget to inform, in a very educational manner, about the history of Evolution. This subject is treated on the third and fourth floor of the museum, through questions like the modification of environment due to human activity or the evolution of living organisms through time.
Finally, don’t forget to visit the hall of endangered and extinct species. In a separate room, it is very informative and raises the public’s awareness of the situation.
